How our engineer vetting works

We don't list every trade who fills in a web form. Every engineer in the Drains Cleared network passes a multi-stage verification process before they're dispatched to a customer's home.

  1. 01
Application and document review Engineers submit qualifications, insurance certificates and trade registration numbers. We verify each document against the issuing body.
  2. 02
Live database checks Gas Safe registration is checked directly against the Gas Safe Register. NADC and other trade body memberships are verified at source.
  3. 03
Insurance verification Minimum £2m public liability insurance confirmed. Employers liability checked where engineers operate as a team.
  4. 04
Trial job and quality review Engineers complete an initial paid job. Customer feedback and job completion standard are reviewed by our quality team before full onboarding.

What every engineer arrives with

Fully equipped, fully insured — ready to diagnose and fix on the first visit.

  • High-pressure jetter

3,500–4,000 psi water jetting on drainage vans. Clears grease, scale, silt and root intrusions without excavation.

  • CCTV camera system

Push-rod HD camera with live monitor and WinCan report software. Every drainage van equipped as standard.

  • Leak detection equipment

Acoustic correlators and thermal imaging cameras for non-invasive leak pinpointing on plumbing vans.

  • Full trade toolkit

Common parts and materials stocked on each van to minimise same-day return visits for straightforward repairs.

Why use a Drains Cleared engineer?

Independent trade directories list anyone who pays to advertise. Drains Cleared lists only engineers who have passed our verification process and whose work meets our quality standards.

  • Local expertise Engineers who know your area's pipe stock, soil conditions and water-company boundaries — not a call centre dispatching the nearest warm body.
  • Fixed prices You receive a fixed price before work starts. There are no surprise call-out fees or hourly rate inflation once an engineer is on your property.
  • 12-month guarantee All labour is guaranteed for 12 months. If a fault we fixed recurs, we return and put it right at no charge.
  • Covered and insured Every engineer carries minimum £2m public liability insurance. You're covered for the duration of the work.

How booking a local engineer works

Three steps from request to engineer on-site.

  1. 01

    Request a quote

Fill out the form or call us. Tell us your postcode, the type of job and when you'd like the engineer to attend.

  2. 02

    We dispatch a local engineer

Our system matches a verified, insured engineer to your job type and location. You receive their name and ETA.

  3. 03

    Job done, guaranteed

The engineer attends, diagnoses and completes the work. You receive a written receipt and 12-month guarantee.

Attending your property

Our engineers arrive in marked vehicles wearing company workwear. Before carrying out any work, they present identification, confirm the fixed price quoted at dispatch and explain what they intend to do.

If additional work is required beyond the original scope — a CCTV survey reveals a collapse, or a leak traces back to a second pipe — the engineer provides a written quote for the additional work before proceeding. You are never committed to work you haven't approved.

On completion, you receive a written job sheet confirming work done, materials fitted and the start date of your 12-month guarantee.

Local engineer FAQs

How are engineers vetted before joining the network?
Every engineer completes an application covering qualifications, insurance documents and trade registrations. We verify Gas Safe registration directly against the Gas Safe Register, check public liability insurance (minimum £2m) and review trade references. Gas and plumbing engineers complete a paid trial job reviewed by our quality team before full onboarding.
What qualifications do your drainage engineers hold?
Drainage engineers typically hold NADC (National Association of Drainage Contractors) trade competency cards or equivalent NVQ Level 2/3 in drainage operations. All hold valid public liability insurance. For CCTV survey work, engineers are trained on WinCan reporting software.
How do you choose which engineer to dispatch?
Our dispatch system matches the job type, required qualifications and postcode to available engineers. For gas work, only Gas Safe-registered engineers with the relevant appliance category are offered the job. For drainage work, we prioritise engineers who know the local ground conditions and pipe stock.
Is there an engineer near me right now?
Browse by region below — each region page shows which towns are covered and typical response times. In most urban and suburban areas, we have same-day or next-day availability for standard jobs and 60-minute emergency response.
Do engineers carry all the equipment they need?
Yes. Drainage engineers carry high-pressure jetting equipment, CCTV camera systems, mechanical rodding equipment and root-cutting attachments as standard. Plumbers carry a full tool kit, common parts and materials. We minimise the need for return visits.
What if I'm not happy with the work carried out?
All work carries a 12-month workmanship guarantee. If a fault recurs within that period that relates to the original work, we return and put it right at no charge. Contact our customer service team within the 12-month window with your job reference number.
