Plumbing emergencies we handle 24/7

If any of these scenarios describe your situation right now — call immediately or request a quote and we'll dispatch fast.

  • Emergency

    Burst pipe

Water pouring from a split pipe. Turn off the stopcock under the sink or where the supply enters — then call us.

  • No hot water

Failed immersion heater, blown cylinder, or faulty diverter valve. We diagnose and repair the same visit.

  • Emergency

    Ceiling leak

Water through a ceiling usually means a waste joint or supply pipe above. We trace and repair without unnecessary demolition.

  • Boiler breakdown

No heating in winter? Gas Safe engineer dispatched for boiler repair, reset or part replacement.

Plumbing problems we solve

Our plumbers are drainage specialists first. When a plumbing fault has a drainage root cause — and surprisingly many do — they spot it on the first visit. You avoid the wasted-time pattern of a plumber callout followed by a separate drainage callout for the same fault.

A damp patch on a bathroom ceiling may trace back to a waste pipe joint, not a supply leak. A flooded airing cupboard at 3am usually ties back to a failed cylinder valve, not the floor below. In both cases, we attend, diagnose and fix.

Every repair carries a twelve-month workmanship guarantee, and you receive full manufacturer passthrough on parts — the warranty paperwork stays with the property.

Plumber using acoustic leak detection equipment against wall in UK home

Non-invasive leak detection

Water leaks behind walls, under floors and beneath concrete cause enormous damage — but the repair cost is usually much less than the structural damage if left untreated.

Our engineers use acoustic correlators, pressure-decay testing and thermal imaging cameras to locate leaks to within centimetres — without cutting open walls unnecessarily.

  • Acoustic correlation for buried pipe leaks
  • Thermal imaging for underfloor and ceiling leaks
  • Pressure-decay testing for supply systems
  • Tracer gas for the most difficult-to-find leaks
  • Full written report for insurers and loss adjusters

Central heating powerflush

A powerflush removes the black magnetite sludge, rust particles and limescale that accumulate in central heating circuits over years. Left untreated, sludge blocks radiator waterways, strains the pump and accelerates boiler failure.

We use a MagnaCleanse powerflush unit — the same system recommended by most boiler manufacturers for warranty maintenance. The process takes 4–8 hours for a typical home and includes a magnetic system filter fitted on completion.

  • Cold radiator spots
  • Black bleed water
  • Kettling boiler
  • Frequent bleeds needed
  • High gas bills
  • Pump noise

If any of these match your system, you likely need a powerflush.

Gas Safe & fully qualified engineers

It is a legal requirement in the UK for anyone working on gas appliances to be on the Gas Safe Register. Every Drains Cleared engineer who carries out gas work carries a Gas Safe ID card with their name, registration number and the gas appliance categories they are licensed to work on.

Before we dispatch, we match the engineer's qualifications to the job type. Gas boiler repair requires a different licence category to gas fire or cooker work — and our dispatch system enforces that match.

  • Gas Safe registered — check any engineer's card on the Gas Safe website
  • NVQ Level 2/3 plumbing for non-gas work
  • WRAS-competent for water regulations compliance
  • £5m public liability insurance minimum
  • DBS checked where required (schools, care homes)

Plumbing FAQs

Are your plumbers Gas Safe registered?
All gas-related work is carried out exclusively by Gas Safe registered engineers. For plumbing work that doesn't involve gas appliances, our engineers hold NVQ Level 2/3 plumbing qualifications and are WRAS-competent.
How quickly can an emergency plumber attend?
Our target response time for genuine emergencies — burst pipes, no water, ceiling leaks — is 60 minutes in most urban areas. We operate 24/7 including Christmas Day.
Do you fix leaks behind walls without tearing them out?
Wherever possible, yes. Our leak-detection engineers use acoustic correlators and thermal imaging to pinpoint hidden leaks without demolition. We open up only what's necessary to make the repair.
What is a powerflush and does my heating need one?
A powerflush uses a high-flow, low-pressure machine to push clean water and chemical flush through the entire central heating circuit. It removes sludge, magnetite and scale that cause cold spots, noisy boilers and inefficient heating. Signs you need one: cold radiator bottoms, black bleed water, kettling boiler or a boiler that keeps switching off.
How much does an emergency plumber cost?
Emergency callout rates are higher than standard rates and vary by location and time of day. We give you a fixed price before the engineer travels — no surprises on arrival. Parts are quoted separately if required and confirmed before fitting.
Do you work on older lead or iron pipework?
Yes, we work on all pipe materials including lead, iron, copper, plastic and push-fit. For lead pipework in particular, we recommend replacement to modern copper or plastic under current WRAS standards, and we can quote for that alongside any repair work.
Can a plumber fix a dripping tap or is that too small a job?
Not at all — dripping taps are a common callout. A dripping hot tap wastes significant amounts of energy every month and a dripping cold tap can add to your water bill if you're metered. We replace washers, ceramic cartridges or valve assemblies depending on the tap type.
What is WRAS and why does it matter?
WRAS stands for Water Regulations Advisory Scheme. WRAS-competent engineers install and repair plumbing in a way that meets UK Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999. This matters because non-compliant plumbing work can cause contamination risks and void buildings insurance. Our engineers carry WRAS-compliant materials and fit to scheme standards.
